Delete your Northy account
Last updated: October 3, 2026
This version of this page took effect on the date shown above, the day it was published.
D1. Request deletion
In the app, open Profile and choose Delete account. To confirm the request, type your full name and enter the six-digit code sent to your account email. If this method is unavailable, email support@northyapp.ca so we can check your request another appropriate way.
Without opening the app, email support@northyapp.ca with the subject "Delete my account." Use your account email if you can. If you have lost access, explain that in the message. We confirm the request and explain any necessary checks.
D2. The 30-day recovery period
Once you confirm the request, your account is deactivated at once. The Android app then signs you out; the iPhone app keeps you on a screen where you can reactivate the account or sign out. Your open requests and quotes are closed, and the apps stop showing your profile in pro search.
For the next 30 days, you may explicitly choose to cancel the deletion request and reactivate, with the Reactivate button. Signing in during those 30 days only shows that screen; it does not cancel deletion. Requests or quotes closed when you asked are not restored when you reactivate.
After the 30 days, the information listed below as removed is deleted, and the records listed as kept remain. This is a recovery window, not a promise that every record or every backup disappears on day 30.
D3. What we remove
After the 30 days we remove your profile, contact details, date of birth and sign-in; your notifications and your own payment receipts; your profile photos and portfolio; and the messages in your chats. The photo analyses linked to your account are deleted 30 days after a confirmed deletion request; a record of each analysis's result (the suggested category, title and description, without the photo) is kept, including after an account is deleted. Contact details in a signed job record or a receipt are different from the live contact profile.
D4. What remains
The Privacy Policy, section P7, contains the complete list. Nothing below has a deletion period unless one is stated.
- Your requests and quotes: requests and quotes that were open when you asked are closed at once and then kept, with the request's address, as are your earlier jobs.
- Payment records: Stripe keeps its own records of each charge, transfer and refund, and the other party's receipt for a job stays with them. Your own receipts are deleted.
- Signed job records: kept, including the signature and the filled-in terms.
- Job content and photo analyses: job photos, work photos, the photos and files sent in chats, and each chat's inbox entry, which keeps the job title, both names and the last message, are kept. The photo analyses linked to your account are deleted 30 days after a confirmed deletion request; a record of each analysis's result (the suggested category, title and description, without the photo) is kept, including after an account is deleted. A photo uploaded for an analysis that was never used is deleted after 7 days.
- Dispute reports, support messages and anti-abuse records: kept.
- Records of a privacy breach: where PIPEDA applies, kept at least 24 months after the breach is determined, and where Québec's incident-register rule applies, at least five years after we become aware of it.
- Reviews and replies: stay published and are not edited.
- Backups: we keep a daily backup of our database for 7 days so we can recover from errors; each backup is deleted automatically after 7 days. Data you have deleted can persist in a backup until that backup expires, and we do not restore a backup in order to bring back data somebody asked us to delete. Some providers keep separate records for their own legal duties.
After the 30 days, a deleted account's name no longer shows on its quotes. Requests, chats, receipts and signed job records keep the names they were made with. Removing a name does not make every kept record anonymous. Kept records are used only for their stated purpose and access is limited appropriately.
D5. Existing jobs, payments and your rights
You cannot delete your account while a job is booked or in progress, or while a payment, payout or refund for it is still being settled; the app tells you why. Finish or settle it first, or contact support. Closure does not automatically cancel an accepted contract or decide what anyone owes. We explain how a job will be handled and provide a support route for records, payment and refunds.
The other party may already have their own lawful contract copy. Northy's deletion process does not erase independent copies they lawfully keep. That is not a reason for Northy to keep all of your account information indefinitely.
For access, correction, consent withdrawal, deletion questions or a privacy complaint, email support@northyapp.ca addressed to our privacy officer. Legal retention exceptions do not remove your right to ask what remains and why. The Privacy Policy explains regulator complaint rights.
